On the morning of March 1, 2025, at 10:20, a freight train was approaching a railroad crossing at the Tendik station in the Atyrau region. At the same time, the driver of a truck, ignoring traffic rules, drove right onto the tracks in front of the moving train.

The driver immediately applied emergency braking, but the distance was too small for a multi-ton train. A collision occurred. The impact derailed the locomotive and eleven empty cars following it.

The entire locomotive crew - the driver, his assistant and backup - were injured and hospitalized. The accident completely blocked traffic on the section, which led to the stoppage of at least six passenger trains. Recovery teams were sent to the scene to eliminate the consequences. The cause of the incident was officially named as the truck driver's error.
