Campaign's Organization from Luxemburg: LE GOUVERNEMENT DU GRAND-DUCHÉ DE LUXEMBOURG
Recent accidents in or near Luxembourg involving waterways include a car plunging into the
River Sûre in June 2025, a goods ship crashing into a lock on the Moselle River in December 2024, and other incidents where cars went into streams. There have been no reports of major sea accidents in or near Luxembourg, as the country is landlocked.
River and lake accidents
River Sûre: A car crashed into the River Sûre in June 2025, leaving three people injured, according to RTL Today.
Moselle River: A goods ship, the Sea Caryatis, collided with a lock gate in December 2024, causing major damage and halting ship traffic on the river for months. The investigation later revealed the ship was on autopilot at the time of the crash, notes Luxembourg Times. The accident left several ships stranded in the port of Mertert.
Streams: In December 2017, a woman died in a car accident that occurred when she lost control of her vehicle, which went off the road and into a stream.
Other incidents: In January 2017, a woman was seriously injured when her car crashed down an embankment and landed between a stream and a lake.
Sea accidents
Luxembourg is a landlocked country and has no access to the sea, so it is not possible for sea accidents to occur there.
